Rediscover: Summer Grilling & Top 10 Tools
Grills have existed since pre-colonial times. Back in the 1940′s and 1950′s, service men were returning home and settling in the suburbs, prompting parties and outdoor get togethers. The original hemispherical barbecue grill was the Brazier. Cooking with one was to flirt with danger. This shallow metal pan on spindly legs had no vent holes and was open to the elements. Get near one when the wind was moving towards you and it was like standing in an ash storm. The barbecue grill as we know it was invented by George Stephen an American inventor for Weber barbecue grills (formerly Weber Brother’s Metal Works), who made it initially out of a metal buoy split in two. This first kettle grill called ‘ George’s Barbecue Kettle” and it was first distributed in 1952.
Outdoor gas grills were invented in the 1960′s. Grills have become even more sophisticated with the development of technology, the introduction of gas grills and their improvements to design and function over the years. Now you can get them with infrared radiant burner, rotisseries with electric motors, even flat top grills that do not expose the flame at all. Grilling is one of those essential summer experiences. Whether in your backyard, at a park, a party, while camping, on the beach or on the deck of your apartment, it is a summer experience not to be missed!
Using a grill isn’t complete unless you have the requisite tools for handling your food over such heat. Whether you are a
serious or occasional grilling enthusiast, using the proper tools is essential.
