The Luxurious Outdoors. Go Glamping!
For some, camping is the quintessential summertime experience with memories of beach filled days and evenings spent preparing s’mores by the campfire. For others, camping is nothing more than wet, sandy feet and long restless nights. There is a growing trend towards glamorous camping (glamping) which originated years ago in Africa for high end Safari vacations. Glamping is a wonderful way to experience the great outdoors without giving up the luxurious comforts of home.
Luxurious Camping
If you are going to go glamping yourself, with a few minor amendments to the camping kit your experience can be turned into a luxurious getaway. While air mattresses have been used in camping for some time, it’s now easy to procure mattresses that sit upon a metal frame and turn your “roughing it’ bed into a home away from home that stays safe from cold and water. Sleeping bags are not an essential camping tool. Think about packing your lovely sheets, extra pillows and a duvet in order to make your camping experience as luxurious as possible. Pack your warm slippers to help take the chill out of early mornings in the tent.
Added Luxuries
For those who can’t start the day without a good cup of tea or coffee, bring along a french press or a china teapot along with your favorite mug or teacup. Once the fire has been stoked and the kettle is steaming, it’s easy to enjoy your favorite morning beverage. Linen napkins are easily packed away for full enjoyment at each meal. Start your day with muffins served in a linen lined basket and use them again in the evening for an elegant addition to the dinner table. During all the hours spent out of doors while camping, it’s reasonable to assume that you can amass a lovely collection of flowers and greenery. Make sure to pack either a simple bud vase or your favorite cut crystal vase for displaying your finds. Candles not only set the mood but they can help for those late night trips to the bathroom so be sure to stock up on tealights and taper candles.

At a work party I received a gift certificate that read ‘two night stay in our tent suite’ – I must admit that I felt a little disappointed as my friends won the five star Seattle and Vancouver hotel prizes. I was soon shown up for my snobbery by how amazing the place we had won actually was. Perched on the edge of the Sunshine Coast was one the most luxurious tents I have ever seen. They included a two person jet bath, rain shower, underfloor slate tile heating, a remote control powered fire, and an enormous bed overlooking the ocean. You went to sleep and woke up lulled by the sound of the waves. It was the best ‘camping’ trip I’ve ever been on, can’t wait to go back! http://www.rockwatersecretcoveresort.com/
