Vintage Luggage: The Trunk

0 comments. Top.

Vintage Travel TrunkWhen you talk about vintage luggage, you’re talking about trunks. The ‘oldest trunk maker in existence is La Malle Bernard in France. They have been making trunks since 1846 and still do. Opening in 1853 in Paris was La Maison Goyard. At the time they were known as Maison Morel founded by Edme Goyard, which his son bought out in 1853 and it was he who changed the name to Goyard. Today, this company is favored by high society and aristocratic families and for special orders, all of which made this company’s reputation what it is. In 1854 Louis Vuitton (Malletier à Paris or “Trunk-Maker in Paris) opened. This company was the first to make a flat topped trunk, airtight and one that was more lightweight. Up until then, trunks had a rounded top. These trunks were all well made and many of them have endured the test of time. you can buy a Vintage Travel Trunkvintage trunk from these trunk makers today. It is romantic to imagine taking a long voyage, on a boat, with your wardrobe trunk packed, some of them, designed to open up like a personal portable closet, uniquely yours, that goes wherever you do. While not easily transported alone, the assistance of bell hops, luggage racks and the like are all necessary to make travel with a trunk less cumbersome. Trains – The New/Old Way to Travel

0 comments. Top.

Steam TrainTransport by train dates back nearly 500 years, its systems involving, man or horse power with rails of wood or stone. The modern rail appeared in England in the 1820’s. There is something so romantic about traveling on a train. A great sense of adventure even when you just step into a rail station in all its grandeur and splendor. Stepping out onto a platform, and into the train and hear the whooshing and whistling sounds of the train and conductor while you take your seat.

Think about old movies, romantic scenes on the platform, tearful goodbyes and passionate hellos. Even the new Harry Potter movies have the children traveling on trains. You get to spend hours, riding in more comfortable state of lounging, dazing dreamily out the window at the passing scenery while reading a book, having a coffee and enjoying a delicious snack. With all the new challenges of air travel, next time you want to take a trip, why not consider trains and make the train trip part of the adventure itself! Here are some links for a virtual trip to some beautiful train trips and stations. There’s even a spa train!
